Research & Evidence

Calibration model improves LDL‑C accuracy in split‑threshold panels.

Journal article

In external validation, the regime-aware calibration model outperformed the best individual equation by 3.5 to 9.0 percentage points and majority vote by 18.5 to 25.2 points among split-threshold panels where LDL-C equations disagreed. [1]

Diagnostics & Pathology

Neuro‑symbolic AI matches human abstractors on pathology quality measures.

Preprint

Using 2,000 independently double‑abstracted pathology reports, the NSAI system achieved Cohen's kappa of 0.95 with the adjudicated gold standard, matching or slightly exceeding trained human abstractors' kappa of 0.92, with strongest performance on Gastrointestinal Metaplasia (CAP 43). [2]

Research & Evidence

Image-based AI models achieve 0.98 AUC in free-flap vascular compromise detection.

Journal article

A systematic review and meta-analysis included 17 studies in its quantitative synthesis. Image-based AI models demonstrated higher diagnostic performance than nonimage-based models for free-flap vascular compromise, but the evidence certainty was low, with substantial heterogeneity and limited external validation. Prospective multicentre validation is needed before routine clinical implementation. [4]

Operations & Workflow

Forecast-driven ED staffing pilot reports shorter stays, but no clear effect.

Journal article

In a prospective quasi-experimental pilot at a Turkish pediatric ED, deep-learning forecasts and linear programming adjusted evening staffing from three to six physicians rather than a fixed four. Among 9,626 after-hours visits, mean post-evaluation length of stay was lower in the intervention group: 175.9 versus 184.0 minutes. The PE-LOS reduction was not statistically significant; its confidence interval included no effect. [3]
