AI‑supported screening boosts diabetic retinopathy referral attendance in Tanzania.
Journal article
In a randomised controlled trial at 24 Tanzanian hospitals, 2378 adults with diabetes were screened; 904 had true referable diabetic retinopathy. AI‑supported screening with immediate result and face‑to‑face counselling increased attendance at the central ophthalmology clinic within 8 weeks versus standard screening. [2]

Multimodal MRI model tops AUC but not beyond nnU‑Net for meningioma grade.
Journal article
In a retrospective multicenter study of 455 histopathologically confirmed meningiomas (development n=346, external validation n=109) for preoperative WHO grade prediction, a stacked model combining nnU‑Net segmentation, DINOv3 features and clinical variables achieved the highest external AUC of 0.742 but did not significantly exceed the nnU‑Net alone model. Policy & Governance
AMA releases four‑question framework for agentic AI governance.
The AMA’s new guidance asks whether evidence, authority, oversight and accountability remain aligned as AI capabilities advance, specifically for ambient documentation, diagnostics and patient monitoring. It emphasizes the physician’s central role to mitigate risks of autonomous, multi‑step AI decisions. [3]
Industry & Products
insitro partners with AstraZeneca for AI‑driven drug discovery in MASH and cardiomyopathies.
Through a worldwide exclusive collaboration, insitro will apply its Virtual Human causal AI platform to identify disease biology in metabolic dysfunction‑associated steatohepatitis and cardiomyopathies, receiving $40 million upfront and up to ≈$1.46 billion in milestones; AstraZeneca will lead clinical development and commercialization. Interview: expenditure-per-patient proxy widely used but fails to capture access.
Podcast from KFF's The Business of Health with Chip Kahn
The interview describes that many healthcare systems and insurance companies used an algorithm that relied on healthcare expenditure per patient as a proxy for access and health needs, but Dr. Obermeyer found it a poor proxy because barriers to care and access lead to underutilization. [5]
Industry & Products
Clinician‑validated AI flags reduce no‑shows and speed pediatric care.
Podcast from The Signal Room
The interview describes that after the AI flag is confirmed by a clinician, patients flagged as potentially high risk received earlier appointments, which reduced no-show rates and decreased the time to diagnostic procedures and therapy. [6]
